Pickfords turns its small print large to help customers avoid the unexpected

Pickfords, the UK’s largest and best known removals company, has abandoned the traditional practice of small print by making its terms and conditions into large, easy-to-read print, encouraging its customers to read and understand important points that they should note when moving home.

Peter Gower, Pickfords’ Legal Services Manager, championed the project following a series of customer issues that could have been easily avoided if the customer had fully read the terms and conditions of their contract.

The new terms and conditions have been written to reflect the current legal landscape with the introduction of the Consumer Rights Act and new data protection legislation which will come into effect this year, the Data Protection Act 2018 and General Data Protection Regulation.

“It is really important that customers understand what they are signing up to. Although there are more pages, its easier to read because the print is larger and the most vital sections are clearly highlighted.”

Pickfords’ Interim Managing Director, Mark Taylor, welcomed the initiative:

“The Large Print has made it easier for employees to learn and understand our terms and conditions and clearly explain the details to their customers. By championing this initiative, we aim to reduce the misunderstandings and miscommunication that can occur when customers do not fully read the terms and conditions of their removals contract.”

Pickfords golf day raises £3,300 for Cancer Research UK!

Thank you to everyone who sponsored and donated to our charity golf day last week; together we raised over £3,300 for Cancer Research UK!

This year’s event was held at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club in Hertfordshire, featuring 18 holes across the 7,052 yard course.

Eighteen teams featuring Pickfords employees, clients, partners and suppliers all completed for the coveted 1st place trophy, while individual players bustled for the Nearest the Pin, Longest Drive and Best Player awards.

BBC awards moving services Framework agreement to Pickfords Business Solutions

Following a formal and robust bid procedure lead by Martin Budd and Pat Hughes, Pickfords Business Solutions is proud to announce that the company has been awarded a place on the new moving services framework agreement issued recently by the BBC.

The BBC considered proposals from a large number of potential suppliers and following a rigorous and diligent selection process that covered a broad series of elements including; relevant experience, capabilities, innovation, commercials, quality controls to name just a few, Pickfords Business Solutions has been awarded a coveted place on the framework. The commercial moving team will be working with the BBC in a number of ways on its internal and external relocation programme across the UK and Ireland.

Introducing the Pickfords children’s carton

Pickfords has launched a new carton aimed at young children, featuring illustrations of a Pickfords move in progress, to them engage with the move process and understand what’s involved.

Designed to be educational and fun, the drawings are left blank for children to colour in, with space to practice writing their name at the top.

The cartons can also be used to pack toys and games, to encourage children to be involved in the move process.

New technology revolutionises moving home with Pickfords

Pickfords, the UK’s largest and best known removals and storage company has launched new technology to save its customers’ time when they move home.

Traditionally, home movers need to take a day off to arrange for removals companies to come and view the property prior to issuing a quotation.  Now arranging a survey is as simple as making a Facetime call.

Pickfords customers can now download an app to their smartphone,  which allows them to speak face to face with their Move Consultant. They can then video their home and the goods they need to move while the Move Consultant watches remotely and assesses their requirements.

The video is recorded and stored on a secure cloud based server and is an accurate record of the goods to be moved. Surveys can now be booked at a time that is convenient to the customer, including evenings and weekends.

Pickfords has over 25 trained Video Surveyors and has conducted 1,800 video surveys so far.

Consumer Director Mark Taylor said,

“We find that customers of all ages are using the video survey as an alternative to a home visit. The benefits to our customers are that they can book a time for their survey during the day or in the evening, the time taken to conduct a survey is shorter, and we can provide a quotation much quicker.”

Pickfords expands Business Solutions division

Pickfords, the UK’s largest removals and storage company, has announced the expansion of its Business Solutions division with the appointment of two key roles within London and the North of England.

With significant industry experience and a remit to support greater account management, new projects and customer care, Paul Bray and Paul Harrison have joined Pickfords’ Business Solutions team.

Returning from a short period with Crown Records Management, Paul Bray makes a welcome return to Pickfords as a Key Account Manager in the North West of England. Prior to Crown, Paul spent over fifteen years with Pickfords in the commercial storage and moving division.

Paul Harrison has spent 20 years in the commercial removals industry, including time with Cadogan Tate, Crown and Harrow Green, winning and managing major accounts in key sectors, including local government, higher education and professional services.

In their new roles, Paul and Paul will be furthering the growth of Pickfords’ Business Solutions division developing existing contracts and supporting new projects as part of a long-term strategy to expand into new markets and to continually improve the service Pickfords delivers to its clients.
